LifePoint Hospitals’ founding Chairman and CEO Scott Mercy showed us how one person can impact the hearts and lives of many others. The Mercy Award, in turn, honors one person in each LifePoint hospital who best carries on Scott’s extraordinary legacy.

In April of 2012, the Dietary Services team at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital welcomed one of the most valuable assets our organizations has ever had the pleasure of hiring; Courtney Nalivka, MS, RDN, LD, Clinical Dietitian.

Since her first day on the job, Courtney has demonstrated an eagerness to go the extra mile as she serves NNRH patients, employees and the community at large. She not only provides monthly nutritional education, at no charge, she takes it one step further by sending out reminder emails and making telephone calls to ensure that patients in need don’t miss out on valuable information or resources that will be presented during the education session. Additionally, Courtney works with Indian Health Services Head Start and educates families at our local Head Start of Northeastern Nevada about how they can make better nutritional choices. It is not unusual for Courtney to take individuals grocery shopping over the weekend to assist them in making healthier food choices and on many occasions she has shared her time with the Community Senior Center by educating their members on proper nutrition.

NNRH is often a sponsor of major events or activities that are health related and Courtney is not only willing to help with any of these events, she is often the first to sign up and offer to help set-up or tear down if necessary. Whenever there is an opportunity to provide our community members with education on healthy living and the importance of good nutrition Courtney is right there. Courtney not only promotes a healthy lifestyle through her work, she lives what she teaches by eating well and participating in local events to raise money for the community such as 5K races and triathlons. As the Clinical Dietitian for NNRH, Courtney is responsible for seeing both inpatients and outpatients and she makes sure to take her time with every patient. Courtney always sits down at the patient’s bedside and listens (never interrupts) to what they have to say, before even starting her assessment.

Courtney’s smile is contagious, she is incredibly personable and her fellow co-workers have told us how happy they are to have her on the team.

Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital is proud to have Courtney as our 2014 Mercy Award winner and to have her on our team. She embraces LifePoint’s High Five Guiding Principles and consistently goes above and beyond for the benefit of her patients, co-workers, and community.
